Lower Back Tattoos

One of the most popular spots for tattoos on women is the lower back region.

This is because of its natural beauty and how easy of a pallet it is for tattoos. For the most part, the lower back on a woman’s body is toned and muscular, which are great characteristics when looking for a spot to tattoo. Men find the lower back to be a beautiful place. Adding a well-designed tattoo there will only make it more attractive!

In the past few years, the lower back tattoo has gotten some heat from some people claiming that the look is trashy and cheap. I strongly disagree. Do NOT let this stigma affect your decision making when it comes to getting this tattoo! If your tattoo has meaning, a great design and an impressive composition, no one will think to criticize your choice in ink.

The back is the largest expanse of uninterrupted skin the body has to offer. That’s why many people opt for large, sprawling tattoos for that area. The lower back region is no different. The tattoo design of your choice can be as small or grand as you want. However, with this in mind, it’s smart to compare design ideas before going through with the tattoo.

For instance, a cute, small heart may seem like a great idea, but it will seem insignificant on such a large body area. Another example is how big designs can be a deterrent. Elaborate lower back tattoo designs can come off as messy instead of attractive. Remember, we are trying to get you a sexy tattoo, not make you look like a biker.

I should address what I said before about the small heart tattoo. While it may be too tiny on its own, that’s no reason to completely drop the idea. Adding patterns and shapes around the main subject (in our case, a heart) can really help bring out the beauty of the center object. Some examples of added patterns are flames, swirls, vines, and barbed wire (though, I do not really recommend the latter idea as it may come off too masculine).

One last word of caution is how the tattoo will appear when you are clothed. When summer comes around, sporting an adorable two-piece bikini may seem like the perfect time to show off that lower back tattoo that you’re so proud of. This is when the tattoo will look its best… right? Not necessarily. Let’s say you decided to get an animal tattoo. Well, that animal won’t be so cute when it looks like it’s crawling out of your bikini bottoms. This is especially embarrassing when the animal is an insect, like the very popular butterfly or ladybug. Not your “sexy” tattoo has become “weird”. Like the heart, it’s a good concept, but doesn’t always come through. That being said, if you are a die hard animal/ insect fan, just be aware of how the tattoo will look with different clothing options.
